About Us
Bringing medicine and AI together, responsibly.
Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare (AIH) is an emerging international organization for everyone who develops, uses, studies or regulates AI in healthcare.
Why AIH was founded
Artificial intelligence is entering clinical practice faster than the ethical frameworks needed to govern it.
Algorithms now read scans, flag patients at risk and suggest treatments. Yet the questions that matter most to patients are often left unanswered: whether the tool was tested fairly, who is accountable when it is wrong, and whether its use was explained to the person it affects.
Dr. Elangovan Krishnan, a physician and engineer, founded Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare (AIH) to close that gap, so that AI in medicine is developed and used responsibly, with the patient at the center of every decision.
The needs that led to AIH
Ethical guardrails
AI tools can reach patients before shared standards exist for consent, privacy, bias and accountability. Medicine needs clear, practical principles that keep pace with the technology.
One table for every discipline
Clinicians, researchers, technologists, ethicists and legal and policy experts often work on AI separately. Sound decisions need all of them in the same conversation.
The clinician in command
AI should support clinical judgment, not replace it. Responsibility for a patient's care must stay clear, with every tool open to question by the people who use it.
Fairness across the world
A model built for one population can fail another. Standards for health AI must work across countries, health systems and resource settings, and protect the patients most at risk of bias.
How AIH responds
AIH brings together clinicians, researchers, medical scientists, ethicists and students from around the world to set out how AI should be used in patient care. Its work is guided by the R‑I‑S‑K principles: Responsible, Innovative, Safe and Knowledgeable.
Through its Virtual International Summit on Artificial Intelligence (VISA-IH), AIH invites faculty and experts worldwide to write and adopt a shared consensus statement on the ethical use of AI in medicine.
Mission
To advance the responsible, innovative, safe and knowledgeable use of artificial intelligence in medicine, with the patient at the center of every decision.
Vision
Healthcare in which every AI tool is transparent, unbiased and accountable, and trusted by clinicians and patients alike.
Our framework
R‑I‑S‑K: Responsible Innovation and Safe Knowledge in Healthcare AI
Aims & Objectives
What AIH works to achieve
AIH aims to keep artificial intelligence in healthcare patient-centered, protecting the dignity, consent, privacy and wellbeing of every patient. We work toward AI that is unbiased, inclusive and equitable across all patient groups, and whose methods, limits and use are transparent to clinicians and patients alike. Every AI-supported decision should rest on clear human accountability, sound governance, legal compliance and secure, data-conscious practice.
To achieve this, AIH supports tools that are needs-driven, clinically grounded and backed by evidence. We build knowledge of AI in medicine among clinicians, researchers, medical scientists and students, and bring international experts together through the Virtual International Summit on Artificial Intelligence (VISA-IH) to develop shared consensus statements on the ethical use of AI in patient care.
